Agios Pantelehmonas

Agios Panteleymonas is a historic place built on the mountain Vorras  “Kaimaksalan” in south west area of lake Vegoritida.
In here the nature was very generous and gave tons of beautiful “decorations” in large amounts. You can choose to visit Agios Panteleymonas in order to enjoy the special hospitality of local residents, to bathe in the crystal clear waters of lake Vegoritida during the summer and to discover through your roadtrips the sights and the landscapes. In addition, you can taste the local traditional cuisinewith local wine and tsipouro( traditional Greek drink). The historic place of Agios Panteleymonas is located between two lakes, Vegoritida and Petron. It is an ideal destination for nature lovers and it is the most beautiful place within the area. The area is constantly developing. It has hotels, restaurants and café bars, which can host and satisfy its visitors. Its location is also ideal because it is located in the limits of the municipality of Florina and Pella and it is only 7 km away from Amyntaio.

How to get there
It is easy to get to Agios Panteleymonas, through the road to Edessa around the lake across Arnissa and through the Egnatia street across Amyntaio. You can also get there through the railroad network from Thessaloniki to Florina or Kozani

You must visit:

  • The one and only historic windmill
  • Agios Panteleymonas and Evoulis church
  • The chapels:
    a) Of Agiou Pnevmatos  (extraordinary view of lake Vegoritida)
    b) Of Sotiros ( at the banks of lake Petron)
    c) Of the genesis of Theotokou ( on your way to Amynatio)
  • The wine factories of the area
  • The remains of a Byzantine temple, vasilica rhythm (Kale)
  • The archaeological places:
    a) Nekropoli of late bronze age to early iron age
    b) Neolithic area

You should not miss:

  • To follow the magical road across the lake from Agios Panteleymonas to Arnissa or Agios Athanasios.
  • To visit the traditional area of Nymphaio and Agios Athanasiosnand also the beautiful landside area of Arnissa and Perea.

In Agios Panteleymonas they revive the customs and are celebrating their festivals in a traditional way.

  • On January 6th they are celebrating “Fota” and on the 8th of the same month they calebrate a custom called “babiden” or “ I giorti tis babos”.
  • On July 27th there is te carnival of Agios Panteleymonas, where the local cultural community is organizing cultural and athletic events that last for 7 days. Then, a unique custom in Florina named “Kourbanis” takes place.
  • At the beginning of September there is a wine and tsipouro feast.
  • Also on December 23rd they have a custom where they light fire and they do it annually with special honours.

The touristic structure of the area in combination with its gorgeous natural habitat makes Agios Panteleymonas an ideal destination for a visitor who wants to escape his boring routine and enjoy relaxing moments right by the lake Vegoritida.
